Things to Know About Wireless Surveillance Camera Systems

If you’re looking to set up wireless surveillance camera systems in your business or in your home, you should carefully decide between using a wireless IP or a wireless analog camera. There are multiple pros and cons for each type, so making the best choice might not be as simple. Let’s take a look at the differences between the two to see which is right for you.

The most obvious difference between these types of surveillance camera systems is how they handle the video signal. Analog wireless cameras carry-over signal via transmitter and receiver devices. IP wireless cameras use a wireless network to transmit the signals instead.

Wireless security cameras provide an added level of convenience, and usually are easier to install. Something to consider when installing wireless systems is the distance between the devices. You need to make certain that the devices are near enough to each other to prevent loss of reception.

Wireless security cameras come in two basic types – those that are analog (often found as part of a package or kit), and those that are IP based. The analog type will include a receiver and transmitter, and will work a lot like an ordinary television camera, with the transmitter and receiver simply replacing the cable. The camera is connected to the transmitter and sends a signal to the recording device. These systems are good, but are prone to bad interference and your transmitted signal can sometimes be picked up by outside sources, making privacy a concern.

The second type, IP wireless based cameras, uses a network adapter to work just like having another computer connected in your network. This adapter is connected to a router and sends a digital video signal to a computer. You can see and record the video from any of your network protected computers. Wireless IP cameras are a good choice because they provide higher quality digital signal that is encrypted and provide more security and privacy. These cameras are better suited for remote surveillance making interference not likely.

Many people are choosing wireless cameras for their ease of use and simple placement. They’re a good pick for anyone who wants to be able to use surveillance camera systems simply and easily. However, they aren’t the perfect choice for every installation.

If you’re thinking about installing security cameras in your home or business, take the time to assess your needs and consider where you’ll be placing the cameras. That will help you determine whether analog or IP wireless cameras are the right choice for you.

You will also want to take into consideration that wireless systems, as a whole, are not always the best type of systems to go for. Wired surveillance camera systems always provide the best protection every security system should have. So unless, wireless configurations are your only choice, it is highly recommended to use a wired system instead. Remember to always keep your security as a priority to convenience.
